Wow….. What a show!

“Beyond our expectations,” is the way SRSJC’s Chair, Suzanne McGill, described the club’s JUMPING & POLO IN THE MEADOW new venture at Guildford’s Kings Meadow last weekend.

SRSJC had been tossing around ways to bring jumping to an additional, more publicly accessible venue for years, but hadn’t settled on the ‘right’ location until SRSJC and Perth Polo joined forces to create a single showcase of two equestrian sports.  “Kings Meadow in Guildford is groomed year round for polo, so the surface is beautifully maintained and set up for horses – and historic Guildford is an ideally central tourist destination only 20 minutes from Perth’s CBD.”

It was SRSJC and Perth Polo’s energetic young organising committee members whose enthusiasm inspired producing the event with just two months of planning.  It was truly a team effort: Perth Polo continuously liaised with SRSJC, provided grounds access, loaned equipment, shared hospitality and watered generously; WA eventing loaned SRSJC its aeovator and Limerick Farms (Meadow Hay) provided trucking and people power to perfect the surface and create the large arena space. both groups envisioning it becoming an annual SRSJC-Perth Polo fixture.

Extensively promoting the event through social media and printed flyers brought keen and curious public spectators to the event, with their picnics and marquees filling up the narrow gap between the polo and jumping arenas. There was constant action on the grounds and spectators were perfectly positioned to watch both sports simultaneously.

Riders embraced the event, entries filling fast for 80-140cm classes on Saturday and 105 to 130cm classes on Sunday that included the LJ Hooker 25 Years & Under Mini Prix and Patersons Securities Grand Prix. The surface helped produce some outstanding performances, including a double of wins by Courtney O’Sullivan on Young Equestrian’s Tinka’s Bay. See  RESULTS page for full placings.
